What is PCR plastic and how does it work?
PCR stands for Post Consumer Recycled and the plastic tops of our serums are made from 50% PCR plastic.
Rather than forming the plastic bits for our containers from entirely virgin plastic (primarily made from fossil fuels), we chose to design our own using PCR plastic. PCR plastic is manufactured from used, recycled, or repurposed plastic. These repurposed plastic bits are melted down into a thick resin which then is mixed with virgin plastic and molded into the shape you see!
PCR plastic can be made up of almost any type of plastic (such as water bottles or milk cartons), thus it isn't as durable as virgin plastic. This is why we use a 50/50 mix of PCR and virgin plastic.
The 50/50 mix of PCR and virgin plastic ensures that the plastic tops are strong enough to maintain their shape while also allowing us to minimize our carbon footprint.
