there are three most common types of skin and it’s important to determine which skin type you have before you begin your skincare journey.
They are: dry, oily, and normal.
A fourth type exists as a combination of oily and dry skin, this skin type is called combination.

Dry skin is from a lack of oil production. People with dry skin will often notice flakes or a scale-like texture to their skin. Many people can experience periods of dry skin especially during the winter.
Oily skin tends to produce more oils than the average skin. These oils are wonderful for aging since oil production declines with age. People with oily skin have more blackheads develop from their pores being clogged.
Normal skin is only called normal because it exists in between dry and oily skin. That is to say, other skin types aren’t “abnormal” however, this is the most common skin type.
Combination skin, on the other hand, is when parts of your face are oily and parts are dry. Typically, the T zone of your face (forehead, nose, and chin) is oily while your cheeks are drier.

If you have dry skin, you will want to look for products that focus on moisturization. Look for products with emollients. Emollients are oily ingredients that sink into the skin giving it a soft and hydrated feel.
If you have oily skin, despite what it sounds like, your skin can still be dehydrated. Instead of emollients, look for products with humectants that hold water to the face similar to a sponge.
